A Personal Guide to Polish Waters

Ustka

Utska is a very pleasant holiday resort/fishing port. The harbour is quite spacious, and the quayside attractive. The town itself is compact and well served with the sort of shops a crusing yacht needs, including quite a good supermarket within easy walking distance. There are still 'fish and chip' shops, but also some rather better eating places.

Mooring is at the quayside, but there is a basin off to starboard on entry (see photo number 3 below). These seemed full of fishing boats and local yachts. Apparently there is a plan to put a marina there in a few year's time, but as elsewhere, it would be the wrong side of the harbour for the town.

The quayside is said to suffer from surge with strong onshore winds; I arrived at the tail end of a fairly strong northwesterly, with some swell rolling in, but there was no apparent motion at the quay.

A good lighthouse (see below) marks the entrance, as well as the usual radio mast and watch towers.

The entry is quite straightforward - line up the breakwaters and make your way iin.

There are no obvious hazards, apart from the harbour being open to the sea and onshore winds.

berthing and facilities

At the moment, the only mooring is on the quayside (bollards and large rubber tyres as fenders), but this is free! Electricity is extra.

There did appear to be some ablutions, and you had to put a 2zl coin in a slot to open the door. It swallowed my coin but didn't open!
