A Personal Guide to The Ports of the Channel

Nicholas Hill

Trebeurden

Trebeurden is very much a holiday town, but none the worse for that. However, it is the setting which makes it: the front and the marina lie in a bay encircled by a string of off lying rocks. The bay is big enough to explore in a yacht, and there is a beautiful anchorage off Isle Molene [see below]

finding it

From the east, you come through the passage between Ploumanac'h and Les Sept Isles, find the W Cardinal Bar-ar-Gall, and follow round the rocks at a safe distance - perhaps half a mile, but no more - beware Le Crapaud. There is a sectored light, but round by Isle Millau the S Cardinal Ar Gouredec, is obvious, as is the way in to the marina. To get to the anchorage turn to port [north] well before Ar Gouredec.

getting in

The marina has a sill, with lights at the end of the retaining wall. Binos might be useful here to see what the lights are doing. The hours of access vary with springs and neaps.

hazards

Lots of rocks! Most are well marked, however, but don't take any short cuts unless you know the area well.

berthing

The marina is large, but even so, in 2004 it was fairly full and relatively expensive by French standards.

facilities

Showers and loos are in the capitanerie. The shops are a short walk up the hill; there is a large supermarket further on, but this is quite a hike.

charts and waypoints

Chart 3369 - Anse de Kernic to Les Sept Isles. A useful waypoint for Bar-al-Gall is 48o 50'N 3o 36.5'W.
